Independent Educational Evaluations
What are Independent Educational Evaluations (IEEs)?
An independent educational evaluation (IEE) is an evaluation of a student by a qualified health service professional who does not work for the school district responsible for the education of the child.
The evaluation is typically initiated by the parent and/or the school district when additional information, or a second opinion, is needed to plan a student’s education, placement, or services.
Parents can pay for their own IEE; however, in certain circumstances, the school district may be financially responsible. Each school district has regulations outlining the conditions for obtaining an IEE at the public expense; however, the school district has the right to evaluate your child before considering the need for an IEE.
What is included in the IEE?
